There seems to be a perception that Facebook is somehow not formal enough to engage and yet there are so many features in the platform that allows organisations to connect with local people and vice versa. The Facebook places (check-ins) feature is one example of creating a social gathering around a location, effectively turning a location into a Facebook page and creating a sense of place! Another example is the recent ability to use Facebook as your page, which gives page owners the chance to be a little more formal when using the platform and separating their personal profile from professional.
