Having spoken to a family friend who deals with IT procurement and management for the school she works at I know that it can be a pain to secure the right kind of funding. Smaller schools would most certainly benefit from using open source solutions, however I guess the one point to note would be whether teachers would want pupils to work in an environment as close to that available to their home environment as possible...
