My t'other half is a big fan of Ubuntu. My mum on the other hand swears by Mint http://www.linuxmint.com/ - which she has installed successfully on all manner of desktops, laptops and netbooks. Not sure which of them is geekier, but neither has yet persuaded me away from Windoze!

Glad to hear you enjoyed Ubuntu! I think everyone should at least have a go with Linux -- not having to suffer a world full of viruses with Windows is a great feeling!

You might like to try gwibber instead of tweetdeck (it doesn't need anything dodgey like Adobe Air, and actually there are several twitter clients to choose from in the Ubuntu Software Centre).
In the next release of Ubuntu gwibber will be installed by default.

Happy Ubuntu-ing!

Nice one Dave! I did this with my old laptop which seemed to be broken. Turns out it had just stopped liking Vista and when Ubuntu worked on it I was exctatic and it's now the machine I take with me to govcamps and when I'm filming. I do try to ensure I only use it to work on remote copies of files though, never treating it as my primary machine.
