@Jon – thanks for bringing attention to those pages which are very useful. As you say, there is still a role for employees to correct stuff, as long as they are completely transparent about motive, etc.

The second of these, for example, states that you shouldn’t edit a Wikipedia article if you are being paid by the people the article is about. Editors can be pretty unhelpful if you seem to be ignoring that rule, especially if your edits seem to have even a small element of self-promotion or PR speak.

On the other hand, introducing yourself on the talk page openly and asking what you can do about an error is likely to get a much better response.

In fact, they can do your case real harm: after so many revert-reverts, the page can be administratively locked in the original state, which is what you don’t want.
