I am waiting for Google to do something interesting with JotSpot's wiki services. It's a missing link in Google Apps as well as Groups. Since then, I've become even more convinced of it. The point about Google Groups, for me, is the fact that it opens up the possibilities: it's an email server, in post-by-post or in digest format; it's a web-based forum; it's whatever you personally want it to be.
